It’s not easy for the Class of 2020 to spend their last weeks of high school at home, suddenly ripped away from the normalcy of spending the day with lifelong friends. So, a group of students at Owensboro Catholic High School decided to bring a little positivity to their classmates Wednesday.

The OCHS class officers — Lily Carol Moore, Katie Hayden, Katherine Logan and Hagan Edge  — wrote an uplifting letter to their fellow seniors.

Teachers and administrators delivered those letters, as well signs reading “OCHS Loves the Class of 2020,” to all 100 students in the class.

“We know that emotions are running high as many of our senior activities are being postponed for the moment,” the letter reads, in part. “We know that stress, chaos, and fear are a few of the emotions you may be feeling. We know, like us, you are missing your friends and the fun times we had together; however, there is always a positive side to what is going on. For example, we all have more time to spend with family and God.”

This was supposed to be a joyous time for seniors — high school dances, spring sports, reminiscing on the journey they’ve taken together through the years.

Instead, it all came to a screeching halt as the coronavirus spread across the country. Originally only out for a few weeks in March, school closures have extended through at least May 1 — and could last through the end of the school year.

So, the letter is a reminder that even at home, the Class of 2020 is still together at heart and they are all missed.

“Although senior year is not ending the way we expected, we wanted to say thank you for the friendships, memories, and fun we have made along the way,” part of the letter reads. “You will always hold a special place in our hearts, and we could not have asked for a better group of people to grow up with. You are in our prayers every day! We cannot wait to see you again soon so we can finish out these last special moments together. We know that this quarantine break will only bring us closer when we are reunited again.”
