Owensboro and Daviess County Public schools have both announced they will remain closed to in-person classes through the end of the 2019-20 school year. They also announced new final days of instruction.
The final day of school for OPS is May 1, while DCPS will go through May 8.
Owensboro Catholic Schools has not made an official announcement, but earlier today said they will follow the scheduling decisions made by DCPS.
The Kentucky Department of Education has informed districts that NTI days will now count for seven hours of instruction each day, meaning the final day of instruction will come earlier than expected.
Schools are still exploring options for how to hold a graduation ceremony as well as other events like honors ceremonies and prom.
Both school districts will provide more information as it becomes available.
The decision to remain closed came after a phone call with Gov. Andy Beshear earlier Monday during which he made the recommendation for all schools across the state.
His recommendation is based on the advice of public health officials and guidelines from the White House that outlined a three-phase approach to reopen the economy.
Schools are part of the second phase, but Kentucky has not even met the benchmarks to being phase one.
