Owensboro man arrested after stealing truck, fleeing police

An Owensboro man is facing multiple charges after allegedly stealing a truck, driving while intoxicated and trying to evade police Tuesday morning.

Jacob Cameron, 25, was arrested by the Daviess County Sheriff’s Office for fleeing/evading police (motor vehicle), fleeing/evading police (on foot), receiving stolen property o/$10,000, driving under the influence, driving on a DUI suspended license, reckless driving, criminal mischief 1st degree, criminal trespassing 3rd degree, and receiving stolen property u/$500.

According to a release from DCSO, at 2:36 a.m. the Owensboro Police Department responded to a stolen vehicle complaint in the 2700 block of South York Street, where a 2015 Toyota Tundra had been stolen.

At 5:26 a.m., a deputy with the Sheriff’s Office observed a vehicle matching the description of the stolen vehicle swerving all over the road on West Parrish Avenue.

According to the report, the deputy attempted to stop the driver but he fled. After approximately a one-mile pursuit, the truck crashed into a tree and light pole at Bosley Road.

The driver then fled on foot before an OPD K-9 unit assisted deputies located the suspect hiding in a trash bin in the 1800 block of Calhoun Street. The suspect was then taken into custody without incident.

Inside the vehicle, property was also recovered that had been stolen from a different vehicle on April 1 in the 4600 block of Barrington Place.
