Daviess County Fiscal Court announced extended closures through June 21 for various parks and summer programs, though some facilities will remain open for recreational use.
The updated guidelines, announced Friday, are in accordance with Gov. Andy Beshear’s phased plan for reopening the economy.
Park activities including shelter reservations, baseball/softball tournaments, organized disc golf activities (other than individual play), leagues or any other special events shall not be accommodated through June 21.
As previously announced by Fiscal Court, all outdoor park amenities including basketball, volleyball and tennis courts; soccer and baseball/softball fields; playground equipment; and shelters will remain closed.
Scheduled programs such as “Take a Kid Camping” and “Take a Kid Fishing” hosted at Panther Creek Park are cancelled and will be rescheduled for summer 2021.
Fiscal Court announced they will continue to provide facilities allowing for the recreational use of Yellow Creek Park, Panther Creek Park and Horse Fork Creek Park.
Following the guidelines established by CDC and the Commonwealth of Kentucky, outdoor park greenspaces including walking and nature trails remain open daily from 8 a.m.-11 p.m. Other amenities offered include public fishing and disc golf.
The Daviess County Gun Club will continue to offer sporting clays and trap during the business hours of Friday from 12–6 p.m., Saturday from 8 a.m.–4 p.m., and Sunday from 10 a.m.–4 p.m.
The Daviess County Fish & Game Association plans to open their lake (to fish only) and gun range on May 8. The beach, playgrounds, basketball courts and shower houses will remain closed until further notice. Camping is anticipated to open May 15.
The City of Owensboro announced similar extended closures to parks and summer programs through June 21 on Thursday night.
