A home was lost to a fire Wednesday night, displacing its three residents and killing a pet dog, according to local fire officials.

At 7:42 p.m., local fire departments responded to a structure fire in the 10500 block of Kelly Cemetery Road.
Yelvington Volunteer Fire Department Chief Mark Bailey said the mobile home was completely engulfed in flames when firefighters responded.

“When we arrived, there were flames going through the windows and part of the roof,” Bailey said.

Three people were inside the home, but all were able to get out without injuries. All three members of the family have been referred to the Red Cross.

“They pretty much lost everything,” Bailey said. “At this time, we are pulling out their personal belongings and giving them to the family. We’re making sure to do that first before we continue our investigation into what started the fire.”

Bailey said no cause for the fire has been determined at this time. The investigation is still ongoing.

Fire departments that responded to the scene included Yelvington, Knottsville, Thruston, East Daviess County and West Daviess County.
