Gov. Andy Beshear will be announcing a new set of mandatory requirements for Kentucky on Thursday after a continued rise in cases of COVID-19.

A total of 402 new cases of the virus were reported statewide Wednesday, marking the second-biggest daily increase in Kentucky since the start of the pandemic. Tuesday now marks the third-highest daily increase after 371 cases were reported.

That brings the total to at least 17,919 coronavirus cases in Kentucky.

“The rising case numbers are cause for concern, so tomorrow we’re going to announce some new requirements that are going to be mandatory,” Beshear said in Wednesday’s release. “Given what we are seeing across the country with exploding numbers in certain places, my commitment is to make sure that doesn’t happen here, but I can’t do it alone.”

With six more deaths reported Wednesday, 608 Kentuckians have now died from the virus.

There have been at least 451,451 coronavirus tests performed in Kentucky. At least 4,912 Kentuckians have recovered from the virus.

Beshear will hold briefings Thursday and Friday, with both beginning at 3 p.m. CST.

A total of seven more cases of COVID-19 and 17 recoveries from the virus were confirmed Wednesday for the Green River District, including four cases and 10 recoveries in Daviess County.
