Due to issues related to COVID-19, the City of Owensboro has been forced to delay the relighting of the Glover Cary Bridge for about a month. City officials said progress continues to be made on the project, and residents can expect to see the bridge glowing off the Ohio River by mid-September.

Assistant City Manager Lelan Hancock said they experienced some issues with materials arriving on time due to the pandemic, but half of the process should be completed by the end of July.

“Most of the lights are in so far, as are parts and pieces of the lighting system,” Hancock said. “Some of the controllers to help them change function and color have been on a delayed arrival. That’s pushed the relighting process back 30 days or so.”

Despite the delay for some of the technical materials, contractors have continued working each day to hang the LED-like lights across the bridge, Hancock said.

City officials are waiting on a transformer to arrive before they can perform a second lighting test.
