Daviess County Fiscal Court approved a lease agreement Thursday with the Commonwealth of Kentucky to secure a regional REAL ID site for Daviess County. The vote came after months of hard work on the behalf of local and state officials who sought to give the state’s fourth-largest City its own permanent site.

County Purchasing Agent Jordan Johnson said Fiscal Court proposed several different sites to state leaders before the Daviess County Operations Center on HWY 81 was selected.

“We’re leasing 2,315 square feet and 18 reserved parking spaces to the Commonwealth for the REAL ID office,” Johnson said. “Fiscal Court will renovate the area per the state’s desired layout and recoup the costs over the life of the lease.”

The initial lease agreement was intended to keep the regional REAL ID office at the operations center for eight years, Johnson said.

County Commissioner George Wathen called the move “a big-time win” for the citizens of Daviess County.

“Had they not been able to do this, our citizens would’ve had to drive to Madisonville to get their REAL ID,” he said.
