Daviess County Judge-Executive Al Mattingly said Thursday that he expected repairs on the KY 81 bridge over Panther Creek to be completed before the start of the school year.

The bridge has been under repair through Jim Smith Contracting. A primary component of the $241,000 project has involved increasing the clearance on the bridge to 17 feet by replacing crossmembers and raising them two feet.

Mattingly said Fiscal Court was “very pleased” with the repair work, which has been ahead of schedule since early July.

“It’s going to be open before school starts, if they have school,” Mattingly said during Thursday’s Fiscal Court meeting. “It’s going to be open before our agricultural community needs it.”

Mattingly said he paid a visit to the bridge’s worksite on Tuesday, when contractors were putting the last beam on the south side of the bridge.

Willis Fagan, 53, of Livermore, was charged with leaving the scene of an accident in connection to his striking the bridge with his truck on May 21. According to police reports from Kentucky State Police, the truck Fagan was driving belonged to United Propane Gas, located in Livermore.
