Ken Crandall is the new owner The Crowne building in downtown Owensboro, but he doesn’t have any immediate plans for the property.

Crandall said he was happy with his purchase during Thursday’s auction, during which he paid $330,000 for the historic piece of real estate.

Located at 107 E. Second St., the long-standing building was most recently assessed at a value of over $404,000 through the Daviess County Property Valuation Administrator’s office.

The building, along with the furniture and collectibles inside it, were auctioned off by Kurtz Auction and Realty.

Crandall, who runs his family-focused business with his wife Sherry and three sons — Jason, Justin and Jeremy — said he was “very pleased” with the price of the sale.

As the owner of many other private and commercial properties, including several that are located near the riverfront, Friday’s purchase fits in line with Crandall’s desire to see downtown Owensboro succeed, he said.

“It’s for the future growth of Owensboro,” he said. “That’s part of everything that we do.”

The building was built in 1889 and includes two floors and a basement. In recent years, owners of The Crowne had primarily used the space for retail.

Crandall said his team would have to inspect the building before deciding whether or not to renovate any aspects of it.

“We’re just glad to be part of Owensboro and hope everything gets better,” he said.
