The following is from a Brescia Athletics press release:

Brescia track & field added several men and women to finish its 2020 recruiting class.

MEN

The Brescia men’s track & field program welcomes 16 student-athletes for the 2020-2021 season, completing the largest recruit class in the program’s history.

“I’ve enjoyed seeing the athletes get settled on campus and really look forward to track conditioning. We have high goals for the team this season and I believe that this year’s recruit class, paired with our upperclassmen, will help us achieve those goals,” head coach Luke Stoffel said.

The team has steadily grown under Stoffel. There will be 31 student-athletes on the men’s track team, as compared to a combined 24 men’s and women’s athletes just four years ago.

Sprints & Jumps:

Nine student-athletes will join the team’s sprints & jumps crew.

“The incoming class will help us achieve our goal of winning a River States Conference championship. We added several talented student-athletes to the team,” Stoffel said. “Colby and Michael will bring some competition to our relay and sprints events. Mason, Talon, and Trenton will provide the team with points in the hurdle events, which is an area we needed to bolster with this class.”

“Ethan and Jeremiah will score points in the pole vault and high jump events, two areas we needed to improve on the team. Travion and James can add competition in everything from the sprints to mid-distance, so their versatility will be valuable.”

Their PR’s include:

  • Colby Aschenbrenner (Cardinal HS, Ottumwa, Iowa): 11.39 (100m), 24.40 (200m)
  • Mason Aschenbrenner (William Penn Univ., Ottumwa, Iowa): 14.46 (110m hurdles), 22.88 (200m)
  • Michael Atwell (Bullitt Central HS, Shepherdsville, Ky.): 26.08 (200m), 53.00 (400m)
  • Jeremiah Bone (Buckhorn HS, Huntsville, Ala.): 5-10 (HJ), 20-1 (LJ).
  • Travion Grant (Pisgah HS, Sandhill, Miss.) 2:19 (800m). He will compete in sprints and mid-distance.
  • Talon Hutto (Floyd Central HS, Floyd Knobs, Ind.): 15.71 (110 hurdles), 40.77 (300m hurdles)
  • Ethan Pierce (Grayson County HS, Leitchfield, Ky.): 15-0 (PV), 5-8 (HJ)
  • Trenton Stovall (Butler County HS, Morgantown, Ky.): 16.49 (110 hurdles), 42.07 (300m hurdles)
  • James Wood (McLean County HS, Sacramento, Ky.): 2:40 (800m)

Distance:

Seven student-athletes will join the distance track program, as well as the cross country team.

“We added a lot of competition with this group,” Stoffel said. “Christian and Wesley will be able to score points in both mid-distance and distance events, which will definitely add to our point total. Jeremy, Caleb, and Keitel will add some competition to our relay and distance events, which will especially help in indoor season (due to the added distance relays).

“Draven has experience in both distance and jumps, so he will help fill in in those areas. David is still learning the sport, but brings a good attitude to practice and works hard. I’m looking forward to seeing what this freshmen class can do.”

Their PR’s include:

  • Wesley Abney (Logan County HS, Russellville, Ky.): 17:52 (5k), 5:05 (1600m)
  • Christian Leach (Monroe HS, Monroe, Ohio): 16:21 (5k), 4:29 (1600m)
  • Keitel McCoy (Lithia Springs HS, Douglasville, GA): 19:45 (5k), 2:15 (800m)
  • Caleb Sandefur (Ohio County HS, Hartford, Ky.): 19:17  (5k), 5:18 (1600m)
  • Draven Stewart (Grayson County HS, Leitchfield, Ky.): 21:04 (5k), 31-4 (triple jump)
  • David Turner (Hancock County HS, Hawesville, Ky.): 5:33 (1600m)
  • Jeremy White-Zavala (Ohio County HS, Beaver Dam, Ky.): 18:21 (5k) and 5:11 (1600m).

WOMEN

The Brescia women’s track and field team welcomes nine student-athletes for the 2020-2021 season.

“The nine women that we added will all help the program in several ways. The women’s track team is coming off a 3rd place finish at the RSC Indoor Track & Field Championship, so we have high goals for the team this season,” head coach Luke Stoffel said.

The track & field program has continued to grow each season under Stoffel. During Stoffel’s time at Brescia, he has grown the team from four women to 32 women.

Sprints & Jumps:

Five incoming freshmen will join the Bearcats sprints/jumps crew.

“We filled a lot of holes with this class,” Stoffel said. “Ashaunte, Abigail, Marta, and Alayna will help replace our graduated seniors in the short sprints and jumps events. Elisabeth will help us immediately in the hurdle events — an area we knew we needed to address with this class.”

Their PR’s include:

  • Abigail Burgett (Hopkins County Central HS, Dawson Springs, Ky.): 13.34 (100m), 12-5.5 (LJ)
  • Marta Hughes (Russellville HS, Russellville, Ky.): 31-10 (TJ), 14-4 (LJ)
  • Elisabeth Joines (Muhlenberg County HS, Beech Creek, Ky.): 17.60 (100m hurdles), 53.25 (300m hurdles)
  • Alayna Petri (Daviess County HS, Owensboro, Ky): 13.74 (100m), 14-9 (LJ)
  • Ashaunte Watts (North Hardin HS, Radcliff, Ky.): 13.05 (100m), 27.32 (200m)

Distance:

Four women will join the distance track team, as well as the women’s cross country team.

“We added a lot of versatility with this group,” Stoffel said. “Lexi, Sophia, and Morgan can help add to the team in both mid-distance and long-distance events. Sheyenna has experience competing in distance, sprints, and jumps, so her ability to fill in where needed will help a lot.”

Their PR’s include:

  • Morgan Curry (Hancock County HS, Lewisport, Ky.): 6:22 (1600m), 2:56 (800m)
  • Lexi Nicholas (Austin Peay St. Univ., Hawesville, Ky.): 20:49 (5k), 2:35 (800m)
  • Sheyenna Stytz (Livingston Central HS, Ledbetter, Ky.): 24:36 (5k), 29-3.5 (TJ)
  • Sophia Warthen (Elizabethtown HS, Elizabethtown, Ky.): 20:49 (5k), 2:47 (800m)
