Man arrested following shotgun-related incident early Monday

A Daviess County man was arrested for assault following a shotgun-related incident at his home that left one man with minor injuries early Monday morning.

Tony Fincher, 45, of the 3000 block of KY 81 was charged with second-degree assault due to the incident.

According to a release from the Daviess County Sheriff’s Office, Owensboro-Daviess County Central Dispatch received a 911 call regarding a shooting in western Daviess County at approximately 4 a.m. Monday.

According to DCSO, the caller stated that a male subject had been shot during an altercation in the 3000 block of KY 81 but that he had left the scene and would meet deputies and EMS in a nearby parking lot. 

Patrol units responded and met with the victim and secured the scene where the shooting occurred. The suspect in the shooting, Fincher, was detained and taken to the Daviess County Courthouse for further investigation. 

DCSO Criminal Investigations Detectives responded and interviewed Fincher, the victim and witnesses. 

According to DCSO, Fincher stated that he was at home when the victim came to the house and a dispute ensued. Fincher stated that during the dispute he went into the house and retrieved a shotgun and then returned outside and fired multiple shots in the vicinity of the victim. He stated that he was not trying to harm anyone. 

The victim was treated by EMS for minor wounds to his back. 

Fincher was arrested at the Courthouse and charged with second-degree assault and was transported to the Daviess County Detention Center. 

In addition to DCSO, the Airport-Sorgho Volunteer Fire Department, the Daviess County Fire Department and American Medical Response responded to the scene.
