Operation Staycation, a new program developed by Visit Owensboro, will launch in September, giving everyone who books a hotel room that month a variety of discounts at a handful of local places.
The program will allow those in Owensboro who are weary of traveling afar but going stir crazy inside their homes the chance to get out and experience the city in a safe, but fun way.
“You’re tired. Tired of being stuck at home. Tired of virtual learning. Tired of cooking. Tired of the same routine over and over again,” said Dave Kirk, destination management director for Visit Owensboro. “Get out of your house and into an incredible staycation either with or without the kids. It’s your call.”
Those who book a local hotel during the month of September will receive discounts at The Brew Bridge — Owensboro’s downtown brewery — as well as at The Bluegrass Music Hall of Fame and Museum and Ole South BBQ.
Upon check-in, hotel-goers will receive a discount card to all three of these local attractions.
“That latest Longwoods International Travel Sentiment study finds that 40% of people do not yet feel safe traveling outside their community,” Kirk said. “Being sensitive to that, we want to offer ways to feel like you’re on vacation without actually having to leave Owensboro.”
Visit Owensboro’s Chris Gendek called a staycation in Owensboro a great recipe for people who love a good deal and are ready to get out and have some new adventures.
“I can’t say thank you enough to our hotels and attractions working together to offer this opportunity for a staycation,” Gendek added. “We’re living in tough times but we’re working together to move forward. We’re collaborating with other partners to continue to offer these staycation packages with different amenities. We hope to announce additional staycation options soon.”
