Daviess County Fiscal Court approved a $45,000 bid to Danco Construction this week for the renovation of the Schertzinger Building — formerly home to RiverPark Eye Care — that will house the County’s Emergency Management Agency and Parks Department once completed.

Both departments will move into the renovated building, located at 221 Allen St., sometime in October or November, according to a release from Fiscal Court.

The renovation work includes removing the existing eyeglass displays and cabinets, patching and repairing walls to accommodate office space, and electrical work for the Emergency Operations Center and generator. The County will add a phone system and secure entrances throughout the facility.

Fiscal Court purchasing agent Jordan Johnson said during Thursday’s meeting that the renovation would also be the first step toward securing space for a REAL ID site in Daviess County, which is set to open up shop at the current EOC site located on KY 81.

Parks & Recreation Director Ross Leigh said the centralization of the Parks staff was “paramount,” especially for those picking up and dropping off documents for the shelter rental program.

“Servicing parks in all three County districts, this allows patrons an equitable opportunity to reach the administrative offices,” Leigh said.
