Roughly 50 friends and family members gathered Monday for a peaceful rally to demand justice for the homicide of 15-year-old Corban Henry, who was killed by a gunshot wound two weeks ago in the 1500 block of W. 5th Street.

Those who attended the rally carried signs and chanted for justice as they walked from Kendall-Perkins Park, where Henry was shot, to the Owensboro Police Station and back.

According to Corban’s uncle, Phillip Henry, Monday’s rally was motivated by a lack of answers family and friends have received regarding Corban’s homicide. No arrests have been made, Phillip said, and no one has come forward to admit their role in the shooting.

“We know the police are working very hard on it. And we believe they’re making some (headway),” Phillip said. “But we want to be the voice that Corban doesn’t have now. Hopefully someone in that community will speak up.”

According to Phillip, his nephew was not the intended target for the shooting. While riding on the back of a moped, Corban was shot in the back unintentionally, Phillip said.

“It makes it even worse because he wasn’t the target,” Phillip said.

Names of suspects have not been released publicly.

“A lot of the kids who were here today are the same kids who were at his funeral and candlelight vigil. They’re still doing what they can — they’re young kids, and they just want justice done.”

Though Phillip acknowledged OPD’s investigative efforts, another rally would likely be held if the case continues to drag on without an arrest, he said.

“We will continue to make our voices heard until something’s done,” he said.
