Candidates for Owensboro City Commission will be participating in a forum from 6-9 p.m. Tuesday night at The Party Space Place. Though the public cannot attend in person, the event will be live-streamed on various platforms.
The event is being hosted by Owensboro resident Antoine Smith-Rouse, who wanted to help give citizens a chance to meet the candidates.
“I believe that it is essential for individuals to vote and also make informed decisions,” he said. “I think that people should make their own voting decisions and not vote for a candidate just because their friend, spouse, family, or parent is (voting for that person).”
There are 16 candidates vying for just four seats on City Commission.
“I am hoping this forum will help people in Owensboro make informed decisions,” Smith-Rouse said. “With so many candidates running for the four commissioner seats, I believe that some of the spots will be filled by a minimal margin of votes.”
Smith-Rouse said he gave the public an opportunity to submit questions they wanted answered. Questions will be placed into a bowl and picked while the candidate is on stage, and each question will be read twice.
The link to the event is owensborovirtualcandidateforum.com, which will redirect to the FB event where the forum will be live-streamed.
Chad Benefield will be the emcee for the event.
Safety protocols will be enforced. Face makes will be required and the microphone will be sanitized after each use. Candidates will sit at a table that is 6 feet from others.
All City Commission candidates — as well as the four mayoral candidates — will have the opportunity to address issues and answer questions on Oct. 13 during the Owensboro Times Virtual Town Hall presented by Castlen Steel and Daniel Dick – State Farm Insurance Agent.
The OT Virtual Town Hall will be broadcast live on our Facebook page in three segments throughout the day.
