A bid for the repair and reconstruction of the Yellow Creek Park pedestrian bridge’s concrete deck was approved Thursday during a Fiscal Court meeting, as was a bid for all renovation work that will accommodate Daviess County’s Regional REAL ID center.
Commissioners approved a $338,500 bid made by Ragle Inc. — a general contracting company out of Newburgh, Ind. — for the Yellow Creek Park bridge project.
Several years ago, engineering consultants looked at the three bridges at Yellow Creek Park and determined that all of them should be replaced. According to Assistant County Treasurer Jordan Johnson, two of those bridges have already been fully replaced.
When reviewing options for the bridge replacement, the County Parks & Recreation board recommended finding a way to save the original iron structure. That structure was built in the 19th century on KY 762 and was donated to the Parks department in 1985.
“The plans were drafted around that preservative effort and it should be noted that roughly half of the engineering costs for that project took place in the prior fiscal year,” Johnson said.
Four bids were received, ranging from $338,500 to $471,500. These bids include pressure washing and painting the existing truss and entrance gate. Fiscal Court approved the lowest bid.
Another bid was approved Thursday for all the necessary renovation work that will accommodate what will become Daviess County’s Regional REAL ID center. The space is currently home to the Daviess County Operations Center located on KY 81. Fiscal Court approved the lowest bid of $276,900 made by Hartz Contracting.
Johnson said renovations will include the extension of the parking lot and the relocation of road and engineering staff within the facility.
According to Johnson, the renovations should be completed by Dec. 18, keeping the County in “the expected range of our ultimate timeline.”
