OPD on Monday identified the victim as Aaron Michael Aull, Jr.

According to reports, OPD responded to the 2200 Block of E. 19th Street for a reported firearm discharge at approximately 9:55 p.m. Saturday. Upon arrival, officers found Aull dead with a single gunshot wound inside the residence.

Aull, a student at Owensboro High School, is the fourth member of the Owensboro Public Schools family to die this year. District officials are reminding students and parents that there are grief and tragedy counseling available through the school.

Summer Bell, district mental health coordinator for OPS, said school psychologists, licensed mental health professionals and school counselors are all ready to help students cope with the recent tragedy.

“We are there to offer support to our students and staff if needed,” she said. “

She said since students are back in school they have a plan in place to meet those who want counseling at Owensboro High School. Students who are on the B schedule will be able to meet with counselors on Thursday.

Bell said the school counselors and the crisis team are able to provide referrals to outside agencies, if students are wanting additional services outside of school.
