Time is running out to request an absentee ballot, as registered voters have until 10:59 p.m. to fill out an application either via the online portal or by calling the Daviess County Clerk’s Office at 270-240-5771.

Deputy Clerk Richard House said the clerk’s office didn’t have this year’s number of absentee voters totaled yet because they are still processing applications. He said the system was backed up by more than 2,000 absentee ballot applications earlier this week.

“A lot of them are duplicates because people are applying for a ballot more than once,” he said.

To help avoid confusion and multiple absentee ballot requests, House said registered voters should strictly apply for a ballot at govoteKY.gov instead of using other links they come across on social media platforms.

“Only request a ballot once. A lot of people have been clicking on other websites thinking they’re requesting a ballot, but they’re not,” House said. “Facebook has all kinds of pop-ups and I’m not sure where they’re taking people.”

Absentee ballots will be sent out by Tuesday to those who requested one through the portal, House said. Ballots can be returned to the dropbox at the Daviess County Courthouse by 6 p.m. on Election Day — Nov. 3 — or postmarked to the Daviess County Courthouse by Election Day.

Additionally, early in-person voting begins Tuesday. Those wishing to vote before Election Day can do so from 8:30 a.m. – 4 p.m. at the Daviess County Courthouse or at the former Burke’s Outlet located at Towne Square Mall.

The three Saturdays before Election Day — Oct. 17, 24 and 31 — will be available for early in-person voting at the Daviess County Courthouse only.
