A drive-thru prayer vigil was held at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital Tuesday night, and officials with OHRH said the support shown from the community — both during the event and on a daily basis throughout the pandemic — meant more than words could say.

Similar events were held at OHRH in March and April to honor doctors, nurses and other health care professionals working the front lines.

Brian Hamby, director of marketing, said those at Owensboro Health could never fully express how grateful they were for the “prayers, support and gestures of gratitude” the community has displayed over the last several months.

“Health care professionals, both at Owensboro Health and across the region, are giving 100 percent to help our communities stand strong against this pandemic, and they are doing amazing work every day,” Hamby said. “Not only are many of our team members on the front line treating COVID-19 patients, but countless others are working across the system to improve the health of the communities we serve. We all deeply appreciate tonight’s show of support and the ongoing encouragement people continue to show us.”

Hamby said containing the spread of COVID-19 was a “team effort” that required everyone’s continuous efforts in hand-washing, mask-wearing, physical distancing and keeping gatherings small.

“By working together,” he said, “we can minimize the impact of the coronavirus and keep our communities as safe as possible.”
