An Owensboro man was arrested Sunday after fleeing from officers and leading them in a pursuit through city and county roads for nearly 40 minutes.
Garrett L. Stone, 27, of Owensboro, was arrested and faces multiple charges including possession of meth, trafficking in marijuana, wanton endangerment, and evading police.
Just before 5 p.m. Sunday, a Kentucky State Police trooper observed a 2006 Hyundai Sonata speeding on the U.S. 60-Bypass in Daviess County and attempted to conduct a traffic stop. However, the driver failed to comply, according to KSP.
When the fleeing driver turned onto Millers Mill Road near Spring Hill Drive, the trooper performed a legal intervention (a pit maneuver) to disable the fleeing vehicle.
The driver of the Hyundai lost control and stalled. Troopers were then able to surround the vehicle.
According to KSP, the driver would not comply and made aggressive threats toward the officers. One trooper deployed her issued taser, which was successful in affecting the arrest.
Stone was arrested and transported Daviess County Detention Center in Owensboro.
Stone was charged by Kentucky State Police with the following offenses:
- Wanton Endangerment 1st Degree-Police Officer
- Driving on DUI Suspended License
- Fleeing/Evading 1st Degree (Motor Vehicle)
- Driving Under the Influence 3rd-Aggravated
- Improper Display of Registration Plates
- Speeding
- Possession of Methamphetamine
- Trafficking in Marijuana
- Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
Stone was also served two warrants for probation violation and theft by deception.
Other involved agencies may have charges on Stone relating to this incident.
