Gov. Andy Beshear said the state expects to finish administering initial COVID-19 vaccination doses for K-12 educators and support staff the week of Feb. 1. He also announced that a series of regional drive-thru vaccination sites will be set up that week through a partnership with Kroger.

Vaccinations have already begun for K-12 school personnel through individual school districts and will continue to ramp up over the next few weeks.

“The great news is, we expect to finish first dose vaccinations for school staff the week we said we would start,” Beshear said.

Local districts are still waiting on their first doses, as well as the accompanying distributions plans — though some officials think the vaccines could arrive by the end of the month.

The first Kroger drive-through vaccination sites will open the week of Feb. 1 for Kentuckians in Phase 1A, 1B and 1C. For more details on who is included in each phase, click here.

Beshear said more details would be announced on site locations and how to sign up on Jan. 28.

The Kroger sites will be in addition to other facilities also providing vaccines, such as health care providers and local health departments.

For example, Owensboro Health is currently providing the vaccine to health care workers and first responders, as well anyone in the general public at least 70 years old; however, OH is not vaccinating teachers at this time.

Those eligible to receive a vaccine from OH can schedule an appointment through MyChart, at OwensboroHealth.org/Vaccine or by calling 270-685-7100. This is the final week those eligible can walk in for a COVID-19 vaccine without an appointment. Starting Monday, all vaccines will be administered by appointment only.
