OPD investigating potentially life-threatening vehicle accident at Ben Hawes Park

One person is in the hospital with potentially life-threatening injuries after their truck struck a tree at Ben Hawes Park, according to the Owensboro Police Department.

According to reports, at approximately 4 .m. Wednesday OPD responded to a single-vehicle collision at Ben Hawes, 400 Booth Field Road. 

According to officers on scene, the driver first performed “donuts” in the driveway leading up to the golf course, then drove a short distance before running directly into a tree next to an open air shelter. The tree was completely knocked over from the ground up, with the front end of the truck coming to rest on the trunk.

According to OPD, the driver suffered potentially life-threatening injuries and was transported to Owensboro Health Regional Hospital. There was no one else in the vehicle. 

Members of the OPD Accident Reconstruction Team responded and are investigating the collision.
