DCSO: Hawesville man facing attempted murder, numerous other charges

Robert A. Simpson was arrested Sunday at his home in Hawesville on several outstanding warrants, and he is facing a string of new charges including attempted murder following a burglary incident last week. 

According to reports, the Owensboro Police Department arrested the 30-year-old man at 1903 Prince Ave. on multiple outstanding warrants. 

He was also the person of interest for the Daviess County Sheriff’s Office regarding a burglary in progress last week, when Simpson allegedly stole a vehicle and fled police.

According to DCSO, deputies were dispatched to a residence in the 4600 block of Medley Road on Feb. 2. While deputies were on scene that day, Robert Simpson along with his brother Darren Simpson, 28, fled the scene of a burglary in progress.

According to reports, Darren Simpson was apprehended and arrested at that time, while Robert Simpson fled the scene after stealing the homeowners vehicle. He allegedly nearly ran over the homeowner with the vehicle while trying to flee. 

At this time, Robert Simpson is currently lodged in the Daviess County Detention Center on a long list of current and outstanding charges. 

Charges related to this incident include attempted murder, theft by unlawful taking over $500 but less than $10,000, third-degree burglary, attempted second-degree burglary, first-degree fleeing/evading police (in vehicle), second-degree fleeing/evading police (on foot), and second-degree criminal trespassing. 

The homeowner’s vehicle was located abandoned in the city. 

Darren Simpson has been lodged in DCDC since his arrest and his charges are listed as third-degree burglary, second-degree burglary, second-degree fleeing/evading, and second-degree criminal trespassing.
