Two men tried to flee from the scene of a burglary Tuesday, according to the Daviess County Sheriff’s Office. While one suspect was arrested and charged, the other — who is also wanted for prior outstanding arrest warrants — stole a vehicle from a nearby residence and has not been located. DCSO is still searching for the suspect.
According to reports, DCSO responded Tuesday afternoon to a burglary in progress at a residence in the 4600 block of Medley Road. While units were en route, a family member of the homeowner stated that the two suspects were still on scene and that they had possibly arrived on a moped.
According to DCSO, when the first units arrived on scene both suspects fled from the back of the residence on foot. A deputy gave pursuit on foot and was able to apprehend and take into custody one suspect identified as 28-year-old Darren Simpson, of Owensboro, while the second suspect continued to flee in nearby fields.
Darren Simpson is facing charges of third-degree burglary, attempted second-degree burglary, second-degree fleeing/evading, and third-degree criminal trespassing.
The second suspect, identified as 30-year-old Robert Simpson, continued to flee on foot and went to a neighboring residence. Once at the residence Robert Simpson then allegedly stole a 1993 blue Toyota pickup (KY License # 583BZ) in the driveway and began to flee the residence in the vehicle.
According to reports, as Robert Simpson stole the truck, the homeowner where the vehicle was taken was nearly run over by the suspect as he fled. The homeowner fearing for his own life fired a firearm at the vehicle. It is unknown if any rounds fired struck the vehicle or the suspect due to the suspect then fleeing the property in the vehicle, according to DCSO.
At this time, Robert Simpson as well as the stolen vehicle have not been located.
The investigation is ongoing and DCSO is actively attempting to locate Robert Simpson, who was last seen in the truck, which also has a camper shell on the bed.
Robert Simpson is wanted for prior outstanding arrest warrants as well as various charges resulting from these incidents.
