The Kentucky State Police in Henderson has documented a number of complaints in recent months of victims reporting their vehicle’s catalytic converters being stolen. Many of these complainants are concentrated in Henderson, Daviess and Ohio counties, though the thefts have also affected the Evansville area.

Since November, investigators have opened 38 cases involving the theft of these exhaust emission components. Depending on size and make, catalytic converters may bring anywhere from $20-$400.

The majority of these thefts have been company and church vehicles left unattended overnight. Detectives believe the suspects are operating a white cargo style van.

KSP Trooper Corey King said detectives believe the suspects know the area because they have avoided security cameras and witnesses. He said the majority of the thefts are believed to be by the same group of suspects.

Troopers encourage citizens not to confront any suspicious persons but rather call the local police agency to report the incident.

Anyone with information on the suspects or knowledge of these thefts is asked to call KSP Post 16 at 270-826-3312.
