Residents in the Masonville precinct voted 201-88 to allow alcohol sales in their area during Tuesday’s wet/dry election. For vendors to apply for alcohol licenses, they must wait 60 days from the day the election is certified.

There were 1,916 voters in the Masonville precinct, meaning there was only a 15% voter turnout, according to Richard House, chief deputy in the clerk’s office.

The petitioner for the election was Pinakin Patel, owner of Masonville Food Center. According to the Clerk’s Office, Patel circulated the petition and posted a $4,200 bond to hold the election. Kentucky law requires that if a wet/dry election takes place outside of normally scheduled primary or general election, the petitioner must pay for the entire process.

Patel said he was happy to soon be able to offer customers alcohol sales and was grateful for their support.

In a message to customers, Patel wrote, “Since May 2020 we started our journey to provide you the best services and you have contributed immensely to our growth and success. Our business success stories are incomplete without you as a customer. We won’t settle for less in serving you.”

It continues, “We would just like to say thank you so much for being always there for us. We are very grateful for your continued patronage because we wouldn’t be here without loyal customers like you.”

The election was held at Masonville Baptist Church, with masking and distancing guidelines in place.

According to House, the only remaining dry precincts in the Daviess County are: #36 (on Frederica Street), #43 (on Southtown Boulevard), Southern Oaks, Habit, Yelvington, Ensor, Thorobred East, and Pleasant Valley — those where the sale of alcoholic beverages is prohibited — will be Southern Oaks, Habit, Yelvington, Ensor, Thorobred East, Pleasant Valley and the city precincts of 36 and 43.
