DCSO: Utica man facing drug cultivation, trafficking charges

A Utica man is facing charges including drug cultivation and trafficking after more than 50 pounds of packaged marijuana and 23 plants were found at his residence along with guns and cash, according to the Daviess County Sheriff’s Office.

According to DCSO, deputies made contact with Clayton Lanham at his residence while investigating a report of gunfire in the area of Old Hartford Road and Poplar Bridge Road. While speaking with Lanham, deputies smelled the odor of marijuana coming from both his person and his residence. 

According to reports, Lanham told deputies that he had a small amount of marijuana in the residence and allowed deputies to follow him inside to retrieve it. While in the residence , deputies observed multiple items consistent with marijuana cultivation.

A search warrant was obtained and deputies were able to seize items used in a grow/trafficking operation consisting of multiple pieces of equipment and chemicals specific to marijuana cultivation and trafficking, 23 growing marijuana plants, more than 50 pounds of marijuana packaged for sale, multiple guns, ammunition and over $24,000. 

Lanham was arrested and lodged in the Daviess County Detention Center.
