Gov. Andy Behear announced that starting Tuesday, the mask mandate will no longer be in effect for Kentuckians attending outdoor events of 1,000 people or less.
That includes backyard barbecues, swimming pools, and outdoor weddings.
Masks are still recommended at outdoor events with 1,000 people or fewer, and the mask mandate is still in effect when Kentuckians are in indoor public spaces — such as grocery stores or forward-facing businesses, or while moving around restaurants — or at any outdoor event with more than 1,000 people.
Beshear initially instituted the mask mandate in July 2020, extending it on a monthly basis before finally relaxing it Monday.
Earlier this month, Beshear said Monday the state will remove capacity restrictions and distancing requirements for nearly all venues, events and businesses that cater to 1,000 or fewer patrons when 2.5 million Kentuckians have received at least their first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine.
As of Monday, the state is 733,654 vaccinations away from meeting that goal.
