City officials are seeking developers interested in utilizing part of the building currently housing the Owensboro Museum of Science and History. Containing 90,000 square feet of space, officials believe portions of the four-story building could be redeveloped into a boutique hotel, apartment units or office space.

The City of Owensboro owns the building, located at 122 East 2nd Street, and City Manager Nate Pagan said officials have talked about utilizing part of the space for additional uses for two to three years.

Pagan said the city plans to keep the Museum in the same location for now, but that parts of the building could be used for other business opportunities. He added that officials with the Museum had been understanding in past conversations about reducing OMSH’s footprint within the building.

“Developers interested in the property would have to submit a concept and development plan to us for how they plan to utilize the space first,” Pagan said.

According to Pagan, a boutique hotel would likely be the best fit for the space, though at this time he said there were no specifics regarding which floors or areas of the museum would be open to redevelopment. All of the logistics, including terms of the lease, will depend on what ideas developers present, and the details will be figured out along the way.
