Gerald W. Stokes, a 65-year-old Utica man, has been charged with murder and first-degree domestic for an incident that occurred in his home Monday. A male victim died from stab wounds, while Stokes’ wife was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries, according to the Daviess County Sheriff’s Office.
According to Deputy Chief Major Barry Smith, DCSO responded to a call in the 400 block of Browns Valley-Red Hill Road regarding a “domestic situation” around 12:30 p.m. and in reference to “a traumatic injury.”
According to a DCSO release, as deputies were responding they received additional information that the incident involved a stabbing. Upon arrival deputies made contact with a female victim at a neighbor’s residence who advised her husband was trying to kill her and had stabbed her several times with a screwdriver.
Deputies received information of another possible victim at her residence. When deputies arrived at the home, they located another male victim unresponsive on the kitchen floor with several puncture wounds.
Both victims were transported to Owensboro Health Regional Hospital, where the male victim died from his injuries.
According to DCSO, the suspect — identified as Gerald Stokes — was located on scene. The female victim stated that only she, the male victim, and the suspect were at the residence during the incident.
Smith said the deceased victim was renting a room in the female’s residence, where she lived with her husband.
