Kentucky State Police and Owensboro Police Department are actively searching for a suspect that is considered armed and dangerous after a shooting incident at Wingfield Inn & Suites, according to KSP. There appear to be no injuries.
Sandy “Slim” Thompson was involved in the shooting incident and wast last seen on running on Parrish Avenue heading towards the Owensboro-Daviess County Regional airport, according to KSP.
Thompson is Black male that is about 6-foot-4 and was last seen wearing a white shirt and white sneakers.
KSP and OPD received a complaint of a stolen vehicle in the parking lot of the Wingfield hotel, according to State Trooper Corey King. Some of KSP’s Drug Enforcement Special Investigation group as well as OPD’s Street Crimes Unit arrived to make contact with who had possession of the vehicle.
King said officers went to the second floor to the room of the known suspect, later identified as Thompson. According to King, when officers made contact Thompson brandished a pistol at the officers.
“The officers fired several times, however never struck Sandy Thompson to our knowledge,” King said. “Once the contact was made, the door was shut and he bailed out the second story window where he ran on foot, last seen heading eastbound off Parrish and ultimately cutting across through some subdivisions and apartment complexes going towards the airport.”
It is unknown at this point whether Thompson fired his weapon, according to King.
Law enforcement is preparing to conduct a search warrant of the room.
Thompson is from the area. King said that means he has multiple contacts and therefore could be anywhere.
King asked anyone with knowledge of Thompson’s whereabouts to contact KSP or OPD. Harboring Thompson is considered a felony.
King said KSP encourages anyone on the west end and central Owensboro to be especially vigilant and lock their doors and be mindful of anyone suspicious.
OPS, KSP, and members of the FBI are conducting the search.
Tips can be given to KSP at 800-222-555 or anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 270-687-8484.
