One person was charged Tuesday for selling fireworks to a minor, and the Owensboro Police Department said they’ll continue to monitor for such actions.
On Tuesday, detectives with the OPD Street Crimes Unit conducted a special operation at multiple locations throughout the city limits focusing on the sale of fireworks to underaged persons.
Detectives charged an employee from Marvina’s Fireworks (2935 KY 54) for selling fireworks to a person under the age of 18.
Detectives will continue to investigate the unlawful selling of fireworks to under-aged individuals.
Juveniles are prohibited from purchasing or using fireworks by state law per KRS 227.715(8).
Under City Ordinance 16-2011, fireworks can generally be used between the hours of 10 a.m. and 10 p.m., but the time is extended to midnight on July 3-4. They cannot be used within 200 feet of any structure or motor vehicle, whether operational or not.
