JD Meyer was sworn in as Kentucky Bar Association President on Wednesday evening in Bowling Green and wants help with issues that lawyers in the state are facing.
One of the initiatives by previous President Tom Carrick that Meyer thought was important was the efforts toward promoting wellness for attorneys, focusing on alcoholism and suicide rates in the profession. Another initiative he wants to focus on is the attorneys in smaller areas.
“I want to kind of focus on small towns — attorneys there, especially in rural communities and making sure there are programs and things to ensure their success, and the ability to represent people in smaller towns like Owensboro,” Meyer said.
The responsibility of the Kentucky Bar Association is to help manage and oversee the attorneys throughout the state both from a disciplinary and management perspective and how to help them succeed. This is done through programming and encouragement to continue education and support where needed.
Meyer said his new position as President will not interfere with his current position at Meyer & Meyer. He said he will still have a full caseload with clients and services they typically provide.
