Vaccinated individuals have the ability to win a “safe-cation” to one of Kentucky’s state parks as part of a new initiative from the Tourism, Arts and Heritage Cabinet. The safe-cation opportunities include golf rounds at any of the 13 state park golf courses and overnight stays at any of the 30 state park campgrounds.

The “Vax & Visit KY” initiative is part of the ongoing effort to prevent the spread of COVID-19 throughout the commonwealth, according to the contest website.

To enter, Kentuckians must be at least 18 years old. They must have received at least their first dose of a Moderna or Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine, or the one-dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine.

Winners will be selected beginning Sept. 9. The final drawing will take place on Oct. 7. To learn more, click here.

The initiative comes after realizing the success in the tourism industry throughout the pandemic, according to Cabinet Secretary Mike Berry. He said that in 2020, 60% of out-of-state travelers reported seeing Kentucky as a safe state.

“The tourism industry remains committed to being a partner in the commonwealth’s efforts to sprint out of this pandemic,” Berry said. “Offering vaccine incentives to Kentucky state parks will not only boost travel revenue in local communities but also ensure that Kentucky continues to be seen as a safe travel destination post-pandemic.”

Gov. Andy Beshear said that this initiative will help save, thrive and grow the tourism industry throughout the state.
