Atmos Energy is replacing another stretch of aging pipelines in Owensboro as part of a yearslong project.

Work began today and is expected to be completed in late March 2022.

Atmos is replacing 7,637 feet of bare steel, along with 31 service lines from the street to the house. As this happens, each homeowner will be updated accordingly.

Contractors are working in the following areas:

  • E. 4th Street from Birkhead Avenue to Dean Court
  • Stewart Court
  • Brown Court
  • Hubert Court
  • Commerce Drive

Manager of Public Affairs Kay Coomes said during Atmos Energy’s 2009 rate case, the Kentucky Public Service Commission approved a Pipeline Replacement Program for its service territory in Kentucky. This program enables Atmos Energy to replace bare steel and other aging infrastructure.

“Atmos Energy is committed to the safety and reliability of our system.  It is our number one priority,” Coomes said.

This portion of the replacement program costs $768,987.

Atmos Energy will work with local officials should road closures become necessary. There will be signage and professional flagging crews on site when necessary.
