Greg Sestero is returning to Owensboro this month. Sestero starred in the cult classic The Room and was the author of The Disaster Artist and is ready to showcase his newest film Miracle Valley.

The movie, slated for wide release in 2022, follows a photographer and his girlfriend on a desert getaway to search for a rare bird. The two are faced with fortune, fame and mending their fading relationship while a sinister force has them face their demons from the past, present and future.

While the Hollywood star is not from Owensboro, there may be a familiar face for some as resident Louisa Torres stars in the film. Torres met Sestero on his last trip to Owensboro, when she did so well on a script reading that he later remembered her and gave her a substantial role in the film.

In the movie, Torres plays a girl named Erika, a character who spends time going through moments of growth before the end of the movie.

Torres said her friendship with Sestero stemmed from many years prior; however, she never knew it would lead to this project. Torres is an Owensboro Community & Technical College graduate and said during her time at OCTC she did a few shows on the stage in Blandford Hall.

“I did like three plays on that same stage so it’s so full circle how I’m premiering a film where I got a degree to be an actor from,” Torres said.

Daviess County Public Library is hosting the event at OCTC’s Blandford Hall at 6 p.m. on Oct. 23. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, only 60 people will be able to attend.
