Theater Workshop of Owensboro is providing a digital experience for the audience with a Halloween-themed variety show to celebrate the seasonal festivities.
After being inspired by his school, Jacob Hein said that a user-submitted variety show would allow people to showcase not only their theatrical gifts but also other talents.
“I thought that would be such a very cool thing to showcase not only people who are singers and actors and dancers that get up on our stages, but also the people behind the scenes, the people that are making costumes, that work on makeup,” Hein said.
The audience is able to enjoy the show at their time and leisure once it’s released on the Facebook page today.
The show is put together with sponsorship from Bluegrass Education Services and Tutoring, LLC.
There are about 10 submissions to the show ranging from Executive Director of Theater Workshop Owensboro Todd Reynolds telling a ghost story to an airbrush makeup artist and more.
Hein hopes they can hold more variety shows in the future. In the meantime, Hein said they do offer other ways for prospective actors to “dip their toes” into more acting without doing a full stage show.
Hein said this also opens up their season as the COVID-19 numbers start to decrease and they begin doing in-person shows.
“A lot of times people are hesitant because they don’t know that they can be involved and they don’t know that the skill that they have is something that can be used and useful,” Hein said.
