The City of Owensboro is receiving $445,482 for the third wave of CARES funding, and the funds are expected to be allotted to community projects that have previously been brought to commission’s attention.

City Manager Nate Pagan said during Tuesday’s commission meeting that the projects include downtown Christmas lighting, construction of three tennis courts, providing a pole camera to the police department, and a fund transfer of three non-full-time customer service representatives positions to one full-time customer service representative position.

The latter was a part of an ordinance that would cause a revision of the city employee handbook, establishing a full-time position and adding them to the pay chart.

The customer service representatives have been able to assist several departments throughout the city and log around 14,000 calls each year, according to Pagan.

Commissioners also officially approved an ordinance annexing to the City of Owensboro nearly 44 acres at the request of Deer Valley Subdivision, LLC to build a new subdivision named Pebblewood with 137 houses.

In other business, the commission approved several staff changes, including the following:

  • Chief Art Ealum was reappointed to a one-year term to the Police and Firefighters’ Retirement Fund Board.
  • Charles Hayden was appointed to a one-year term to the Police and Firefighters’ Retirement Fund Board.
  • Kevin Collignon was reappointed to a one-year term on the GRADD Regional Transportation Committee.
  • Jonathan Pattonwas appointed to a two-year term with the Owensboro Parks and Recreation Advisory Board.
  • Major Jason Winkler was reappointed to a three-year term at the Owensboro Area Shelter and Information Services.
