General Manager Kevin Frizzell said that in 2020, Owensboro Municipal Utilities reported only 42 minutes for the average duration of power interruptions — putting the organization at just 27% of the state average rates.

“The kind of benchmark on this statistic is you want to be below one hour for the average duration for an average customer, and so at 42 minutes, I think we’re doing very well,” Frizzell said during Tuesday’s commission meeting.

He also reported that while October was 4 degrees hotter than the 20-year average, they saw retail sales go nearly 4% below budget for the month. Frizzell also reported that water sales were 11.2% below budget for the month.

Frizzell said that OMU employees have completed their annual United Way Campaign with employees pledging a total of $33,509.20 — just short of the previous year’s pledges. With that amount, the Commission will match it in the Fiscal Year 2022 budget.

In other business, OMU approved bids for a pole change-out contractor and material for Fiber to the Home Buildout totaling $1.76 million dollars.

Crystal Johnson was promoted from CSRIII to CSRIV and Kathryn Meade was promoted from CSRI to CSRIII both effective Nov. 20. Harry Best and Jennifer Atwell were approved for retirement.

Looking forward, Frizzell said the next commission meeting is planned to be in-person again and he is excited to be able to gather. They canceled the December work session and instead moved to the in-person meeting on Dec. 16.

“Our plan is to have that back in person in the boardroom,” Frizzell said. “We will still try to maintain some space and social distance but we will plan on meeting in person.”
