The U.S. Air Force Demonstration Squadron, Thunderbirds, lead the lineup for the 2023 Owensboro Air Show for the weekend of Sept. 15-17, 2023.

The Owensboro Air Show is on hiatus in 2022.

“For Owensboro to be selected again speaks to the incredible support and community involvement the military teams experience when they are in town,” Public Events Director Tim Ross said. “For the premier demonstration team in the world to select Owensboro again for their show schedule in 2023 is something our city should be really proud of.”

Due to the large requests for their demonstrations, Ross said that the Thunderbirds only pick 30 locations to perform at during a season.

Ross also announced that on Sept. 15, 2023, the Owensboro-Daviess County Regional Airport will be open for demonstrations and have a wide range of aircraft on display.

The Thunderbirds last appeared at the 2015 Air Show and drew large crowds reaching upward 30,000 in attendance, according to Ross.

With the break in 2022, this will mark 8 years since the last appearance of the Thunderbirds performing at the Air Show.

The 120 member team is made up of 8 pilots that fly the iconic F-16 Fighting Falcon plane through different air shows and performances across the country.

Thunderbirds have been roaring through the sky as a team since 1953 and are known for several formations and maneuvers. All of which are performed at speeds exceeding 400 miles per hour.
