One person died and another is in critical condition after a single-vehicle accident that occurred Sunday on the Wendell Ford Expressway under the bridge of HWY 603, according to the Daviess County Sheriff’s Office.
According to a release, deputies with other first responders were dispatched to an accident with injuries at that location. Upon arrival, it was discovered that a pickup truck was reported to have suddenly veered right and ran off the roadway into three of the four bridge pillars, according to DCSO.
The driver was pronounced dead at the scene. He was reportedly not wearing his seat belt but is believed to have possibly died due to a medical condition that occurred while driving, which was also believed to be the cause of the accident, according to DCSO.
According to the release, the passenger was wearing her seat belt, but had to be extracted by fire crews due to being pinned down within the vehicle. She was in critical condition and transported to Owensboro Health Regional Hospital.
Owensboro Times is choosing not to disclose further information on the vehicle or the people involved until families have been notified.
