The Owensboro Catholic Schools (OCS) community works hard to create a faith-filled, family atmosphere with the ultimate goal of fostering academic and spiritual growth for each student. The schools were founded by the Sisters of Charity and the Ursuline Sisters of Maple Mount and boast a rich tradition dating back to 1859.

While buildings and campuses have come and gone and educational practices have taken many shapes, one thing remains a constant: faith. The K-3 campus, the 4-6 campus, Owensboro Catholic Middle School, and Owensboro Catholic High School comprise the entire school system.

“As it is displayed on signs throughout our buildings, Christ is the reason for our school. He is the unseen but ever-present teacher in its classes. He is the model of its faculty and the inspiration of its students,” said director of advancement Natalie Hayden.

The school system strongly emphasizes its college-prep efforts, regularly producing high test scores, and offers a wide array of award-winning extracurricular and athletic activities. Whether it’s performing arts, sports, or clubs, Hayden said students are encouraged to participate.

“Catholic schools are steeped in academic excellence,” she said. “Our caring and dedicated faculty and staff challenge students to use their God-given gifts to reach their potential. They are prepared to further their education, and they are prepared for life.”

Hayden attributed much of their success to the strong culture created by staff and alumni throughout the years. She said that high school class reunions present some special events each summer, giving alumni opportunities to revisit the hallways and school chapel they once called home.

“The culture at OCS tries to provide meaningful, personal, and social experiences,” Hayden said. “These activities help create solid friendships and values that carry into adulthood and often turn into lifelong friendships. Faith, Family, and the strong support from alumni help keep the OCS tradition going strong.”

OCS also encourages and supports involvement in the many service and charitable organizations throughout the city to emphasize the importance of helping and serving others.

“Our students are our greatest source of pride. They exemplify what it means to be true leaders, achievers, and believers,” Hayden said.

The OCS Central Office is located at 1524 West Parrish Avenue on the south end of the high school and is open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. Registration for the 2022-23 school year is open and additional information is available on their website at owensborocatholic.org. For assistance with the registration process, give them a call at 270-686-8896.

“There are thousands of generous families and alumni in our community and beyond who work hard to make Owensboro Catholic Schools affordable for every family who is willing to serve and sacrifice for their children’s education,” Hayden said. “If you have any questions, please reach out. We are thrilled to assist you in the registration process from start to finish. Come see what it means to be OC.”
