Road resurfacing

South Frederica Street will be getting resurfaced sometime this season, while some work will be done behind the Malco movie theater to provide a connector to the residential neighborhood on that side of KY 54 according to KYTC Chief District Engineer Deneatra Henderson.

Henderson said conversations were underway about whether they were going to do surface repairs versus an actual resurfacing.

“We’re going to go ahead and resurface [South Frederica] this season, and we’re going to use technologies and some fibers within the asphalt to try to help it from cracking and try to keep it from deteriorating as quickly as possible,” Henderson said.

Henderson said with the increase in construction on KY 54 in the near future, KYTC plans to do a short-term construction in April to give people in the Wimsatt Court subdivision a different entrance to the neighborhood.

The plan is to connect the road behind the Malco Owensboro Cinema Grill & MXT to somewhere on Wimsatt Court.

Henderson warned the project is being handled by the maintenance crew and not the construction team. When the construction team gets the ability in their contract to address the entrance, they can go back over the connector and fine-tune it.
