Owensboro-Daviess County Central Dispatch implemented the Automated Secure Alarm Protocol (ASAP) on Monday, meaning the center can provide more rapid response monitoring for homes and businesses.

They are the first in the state to implement the ASAP program.

To test the speed of the ASAP alarm, a smoke detection event was tested at TYCO/Johnson Control. The ASAP system received the notification 40 seconds before a 911 call was placed from the impacted facility.

This program is available to households as well. ODC Central Dispatch encouraged that all who have contracts with an alarm monitoring company contact their provider about implementing the ASAP program for their property.

Paul Nave, director of ODC Central Dispatch, said that with the new program there will be fewer phone calls made to the PSAP alarm program.

“The alarm monitoring center data is passed directly to PSAPs electronically within seconds and then provided to first responders upon dispatch,” Nave said.

That will lead to quicker processing times and reduced hold times because data does not have to be input manually or communicated verbally and with greater accuracy.

The process takes on average about 5 seconds, according to Nave.
