Owensboro-Daviess County Dispatch is planning for the new CAD system to be fully up and running on August 1. The new system will allow for dispatch to send calls to appropriate units within 30 to 40 seconds with more detailed information.
This will apply to fire, burglary, medical and other alarms as soon as possible. The system also will have an exact location of the alarm along with the business name, contact information and alarm keyholders that are built into their system.
“You get the notification and we’re able to dispatch and if it’s a fire does it automatically with one button,” Director Paul Nave said.
The next step after August 1 is to transition the CAD system to allow Owensboro Fire, Owensboro Police, Daviess County Fire and Daviess County Sheriff’s Office to communicate with AMR without having to repeat vital information.
They also have to work on mapping multileveled buildings such as apartment complexes, retirement homes, etc., so that when a call is placed, it routes the first responders to the proper location and not somewhere else within the building.
“I’d say it’s efficient and it’s gonna make a difference for our community, and so our goal is to go live with that on around August 1,” Nave said.
Lt. Col. JD Winkler with Owensboro Police said that the agency is grateful for the raises they were granted by the city and county governments ad hopefully that’ll help bring more people on staff with the parties.
In the first quarter of the year, Nave reported that ODCD had 17,530 total calls which is up 22% from January – March of 2021.
They are also fielding several phone calls from 14 different languages aside from English. Thus far, they are seeing 721 minutes in Spanish, 159 minutes in Pashtu, 146 in Burmese, 144 in Karen and 129 minutes in other non-English languages.
