One person died Monday afternoon in a two-vehicle accident in the 7800 block of U.S. 60 in Maceo, while another was taken by Air Evac to the hospital.

According to the Daviess County Sheriff’s Office, at approximately 4:10 p.m. a Calhoun man was traveling westbound when he sharply maneuvered his vehicle causing him to lose control before crossing the median. He then struck a vehicle driven by a Grandview, Ind., woman head-on.

The man sustained serious injuries and was taken by Air Evac, while the woman was pronounced deceased on scene.

Both vehicles sustained severe damage and the eastbound lanes of U.S. 60 East were shut down for approximately 2.5 hours. Both drivers were wearing seatbelts and alcohol is not believed to be a contributing factor at this time, according to DCSO.

Note: There was also a non-fatal wreck around the same time at the intersection of KY 144 and Daniels Lane.
