Supporting Heroes – a national nonprofit that honors the service and sacrifice of public safety heroes who give their lives in the line of duty – will host its 2022 Heroes Tribute Gala this Saturday at the Owensboro Convention Center. Registration for the event closes at noon Monday.

An informal reception will begin at 4 p.m. Saturday in the atrium just outside the gala hall featuring hors d’oeuvres and beverages. During this time, event-goers can peruse logo wear and silent auction items while visiting with friends and family.

The silent auction is also available online for those unable to attend in person.

Doors open for the gala at 5:20 p.m., and the event begins at 6.

A release from the nonprofit reads, “Whether you work in public safety, are the survivor of a fallen hero, or simply appreciate the service and sacrifice of heroes, you will not want to miss this event.”

The formal program features a tribute to all fallen public safety heroes, with family members present, and a special tribute to those who gave their lives while on active duty in Indiana, Kentucky, and Missouri last year.

The event also features dinner, additional speakers, and presentations before concluding with “an uplifting candlelight ceremony sharing light and hope as we go forward.”

Seats are available online here for $50 for members and $60 for nonmembers. Immediate survivors of fallen heroes are welcome to attend any Supporting Heroes events free of charge.

Supporting Heroes was conceived in 2004 by Gabriel Keithley and Eric Johnson to provide peer and financial support to families directly impacted by losing a loved one in the line of duty. The group aspires to create a vehicle by which citizens can show their appreciation for the daily service sacrifices of public safety servants.

Initially focused on the Louisville area, the group quickly expanded to encompass all of Kentucky and Indiana. Out of growing demand, they expanded again in 2016 to serve families in the entire state of Missouri.
