Parker Peters on Tuesday was officially sentenced to 15 years in prison after pleading guilty to a dozen charges related to the Class D felony of possessing child pornography.
Peters, now 22, was 19 when he was arrested by the Daviess County Sheriff’s Office in August 2019 and charged with 10 counts of possessing and viewing matter portraying sexual performance by a minor. Additional charges were brought against Peters a year later following further investigation.
Peters was indicted in the August 2020 session of the Daviess County Grand Jury and initially entered a not guilty plea. Peters changed his plea to guilty earlier this year upon accepting an offer from the Commonwealth.
Peters pled guilty to the original 10 counts of possession or viewing matter portraying sexual performance by a minor, as well as two amended charges for the same crime. He was sentenced to a total of 15 years by Circuit Judge Lisa Jones.
Peters will also have to register as a sex offender registry and complete a sex offender treatment program.
“I am glad that this case was brought to a resolution that was accepted by the victims and their families,” said Brad Youngman, who was a detective on the case. “These types of cases are becoming far too common. Each time we are able to investigate, charge, and successfully prosecute a suspect, it sends a message to both criminal and victims alike that we will not tolerate this kind of behavior.”
Youngman added, “Possession cases are tough because we aren’t always able to identify the children involved in the images and therefore not always able to get them the justice they deserve. In this case some of the children were local and we did identify them.”
