Classes began Wednesday for Owensboro Public Schools, Owensboro Catholic Schools, and Heritage Christian School. Officials said it was a smooth start to the year and they are excited to welcome students back to the classrooms. It’s still unclear if Daviess County Public Schools will begin classes on Friday after they were forced to delay their start date.

OPS Public Information Officer Jared Revlett said they had a great start Wednesday.

“Our staff is as energized as they have been in a while and are really focused on having a fantastic year for our students,” he said. “We revealed the brand new renovations to Cravens Elementary, distributed laptops at our middle and high schools, and are off to a great start. We are so thankful for our entire staff from our custodians to our bus drivers, maintenance workers, computer techs and food service staff who are really the backbone that make everything run so smoothly.”

Similarly, OCS Chief Academic Officer Keith Osborne said their first day was a success.

“Our students were excited about being back,” he said. “We had a very calm and productive first day with students getting used to new procedures and expectations. We are looking forward to our students growing more in their faith and putting it in action. We also want to see them advance in their academic pursuits through a combination of methods that have been time tested but also incorporates modern techniques.”
